Kia ora, thanks for dropping by. Please note, I am in frequent contact with people who work in healthcare and daycare. As a result, I am likely to get sick frequently. Given the current COVID-19 situation and advice to stay home if sick, I am advising potential clients to seek out different celebrants in the first instance. I am happy to act as a back-up if required. All the best, Bradley.

Required

Part of my role as a registered Marriage and Civil Union Celebrant is ensuring that the relevant legal requirements are met on the day of your ceremony. The broad brush strokes are briefly outlined below, we'll go into a bit more detail when we meet.

You

We can't have a marriage or civil union ceremony without you. More specifically though, we need to know that we have the right people. Appropriate photo ID on the day or ahead of time can take care of that.

Licence

Marriage licences can be ordered online up to 3 months ahead of a ceremony. You need to order and pay for this yourselves. You will need to include your celebrant's name and your ceremony venue. It's a good idea to include an alternate venue in case your ceremony needs to be moved.

Witnesses

You will need two witnesses. There are a few criteria that witnesses need to meet, but we can discuss these in our meeting.

Vows

While you can write your own vows, we will need to incorporate a few specific words. The words differ for marriages and civil unions. I'll make sure we have what we need.

CEREMONIES

Until further notice, I am only conducting 'registry style' ceremonies. The script for the ceremony is shown below, and is adapted from option 1 of the registry ceremonies.

Welcome everyone, to the marriage ceremony of [name 1] and [name 2].

While today's ceremony serves to witness and affirm the choice [name 1 and name 2] have both made to stand together as friends and partners for life, no ceremony or single day can create a marriage; only the couple can do that —through love and patience; through dedication and perseverance; through talking and listening, through helping, supporting, and believing in each other before today, throughout today, and after today.

The vows that you are about to declare are your promises of these commitments to each other.

[insert name] please repeat after me:

I [insert full name] declare that I am freely entering into this marriage between myself and [insert full name].

I invite everyone to witness that I, [insert name] take you, [insert name] to be my legal husband/wife/partner.

[insert name] please repeat after me:

I [insert full name] declare that I am freely entering into this marriage between myself and [insert full name].

I invite everyone to witness that I, [insert name] take you, [insert name] to be my legal wife/husband/partner.

For generations, wedding rings have served as an outward symbol of the vows that couples make to each other on their wedding day. As you wear these rings, let them remind you of the promises you have made to each other and your commitment to your marriage.

[name 1], please take [name 2]'s ring and repeat after me.

[name 2], please accept this ring as a symbol of the promises I have made to you today, the promises I have made before today, and as a promise for our future together.

[name 2], please take [name 1]'s ring and repeat after me.

[name 1], please accept this ring as a symbol of the promises I have made to you today, the promises I have made before today, and as a promise for our future together.

[name 1] and [name 2], with your vows and rings exchanged, it is my honour to now pronounce you to be legally married as husband and wife (partners/ wife and wife/ husband and husband). The next kiss you share will be your first as a married couple

Congratulations [insert name and name].

[insert name] and [insert name] will now sign the paperwork and I ask [insert witnesses names] to come forward please.
